Educational Rain Garden Ribbon Cutting

Educational Rain Garden Ribbon Cutting

Thursday, June 24, 2021 (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM) (MDT)

Description

The City of Nampa invites the community to a ribbon cutting event at 10:00 a.m. on Fri., June 25 at Lakeview Park to celebrate the new Educational Rain Garden located near 12th Ave. N. off Garrity Blvd. The garden will be the first of its kind within the City of Nampa and include a variety of native and drought-tolerant plants, a pavilion with a rain barrel, and educational signage on how rain gardens reduce stormwater runoff in residential settings.

The goal of this garden is to educate community members on water quality and exhibit different methods one can incorporate into personal residences to reduce contaminated stormwater runoff. The rain garden creates an opportunity for citizens to enjoy nature and become part of a greener solution to stormwater pollution.

The concept for the Educational Rain Garden began in 2015 thanks to Cheryl Jenkins, the previous Superintendent for the Environmental Compliance Division. Jenkins was a City of Nampa employee for almost 25 years who sadly lost her battle to cancer in 2015. A memorial plaque will be placed in the rain garden and unveiled at the ribbon cutting in her honor.
